US to sacrifice control of internet domain-governing body in place of multilateral body

The organisation responsible for controlling internet domain names and addresses will be governed by a “multi-stakeholder” model later this year as the current steward, the United States, has lost credibility in the wake of the much-publicised leaks by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The new model, which will take effect sometime between September and late December, will include the participation of governments, businesses and individuals, according to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers .

EMC Quarterly Profit Falls as Demand Slows in Data Storage Market

EMC Corp. reported a decline in earnings, in line with analysts’ estimates, in a slowing market for storage devices, as it cuts jobs and moves forward with a planned $67 billion takeover by Dell Inc. Fourth-quarter profit excluding certain costs slipped 10 percent to $1.27 billion, or 65 cents a share, EMC said in a filing Wednesday. Revenue was little changed from a year earlier at $7 billion.
