Is Google’s tablet an iPad killer?
Less than one week on from the Apple iPad launch, and a set of intriguing photos of a similar device running Google’s Chrome OS has surfaced on the influential technology blog TechCrunch.
These appear to be very realistic mockups of a device that may be under development by Google, or by a third party, since Google’s Chrome operating system will be available to one and all.
The big question, of course, is will it be an iPad killer?
One of the charges most frequently levelled at the as yet unreleased Apple tablet is that it offers a closed system, and will not run third-party applications that don’t come in the form of apps from the App Store.
The Google machine in these pictures runs the iPad close for looks, and if Google keeps the OS open, it could, in the words of one commentator, “stomp all over Apple”.
Is this more like the machine we’ve been waiting for?
